What is a SD card/Memory card and which SD card/Memory card is better?

In today's world, every one need's more space in devices to save more photos, videos, and other stuff. That's why people buy SD Cards which is also popularly known as  Memory Cards. Here are some things to keep in mind while buying a memory card. This article includes what is SD Card and why there are different types of SD Cards with different prices.

What is SD Card?

SD Cards stands for secure digital cards. We use SD Cards to secure data. That data can be of any type including audio, video, photos, etc.

Types of SD Cards?

There are 3 types of SD Cards.

  1. SDSC
  2. SDHC
  3. SDXC 
SDSC- It stands for secure digital standard capacity. In this category, you will get a card of capacity somewhere between 128MB to 4GB.

SDHC- It stands for secure digital high capacity. In this category, you will get a card of capacity between 4GB to 32GB. 

SDXC- It stands for secure digital extended capacity. In this category, you will get a card of capacity between 64GB to 2TB.

Classes of SD Cards

Prices of memory card also depends on its class, for example, we can say that class 10 memory card will be more expensive than class 2 memory card. The speed of the memory card also depends on the Class of memory card, for example, class 10 memory card will be faster than class 2 memory card.  there are following classes of memory cards and the speed of the memory card.

Class of memory card = Speed of transfer of data.

SD Card Class
Class 2 =  2Mbps
Class 4 =  4Mbps
Class 6 =  6Mbps
Class 10 =  10Mbps

After this, some people will ask that why do we need to buy a class 10 memory card? 
In our smartphone, we can easily use class 2,4,6, or class 10 memory card. But if we buy a DSLR or if you want to record videos in full Hd on your mobile phone then you need a class 10 memory card because class 2 memory card can't do that, class 2 SD card will not give you HD photos and videos.

Above class 10 there are 2 more classes of SD Cards.
UHS 1 - Ultra High Speed 1 (Speed = 10Mbps or More)
UHS 2 - Ultra High Speed 2 (Speed = 30Mbps or More)
These classes of memory card are used for 4K recordings
